STATEMENT

With the progress of digitalization throughout the world, the pandemic of the new coronavirus is accelerating digital transformation. In such a changing environment, consumers are exploring new lifestyles, and hybrid purchasing behavior that combines physical and digital is taking root.

In a rapidly changing environment where conventional wisdom and precedents do not apply, the promotion industry is required to flexibly review its business structure according to the times and continuously update the value provided to consumers and society.

To adapt to these changes in the environment, support the business growth of our members, and develop the promotional marketing industry, JPM redefined “the significance and purpose of JPM” at the annual general meeting in June 2022 as follows.

PURPOSE: What is JPM for?

As a leading role in the promotional marketing industry, we will support the business growth of our members in order to make the purchasing behavior of consumers a richer experience and increase its value. Thus we will contribute to the development of the Japanese economy.

MISSION: What does JPM do?

By promptly providing domestic and international information useful for pursuing expertise in all areas necessary to guide consumers to actual purchasing behavior, and by providing opportunities to build networks that transcend the boundaries of companies and businesses, we will contribute to the business expansion of our members.

In addition, while adapting to changes in the environment, we will create new values ​​for promotional marketing together with our members, and constantly evolve and update them.

VISION: The future JPM wants to realize

We will continue to realize more enjoyable and richer purchasing behavior for consumers.

HISTORY

1969Established as a Japanese branch of the U.S. POP Advertising Association
1971Started “Japan Promotional Marketing Show.”
1978Launched “Promotional Marketing Survey”
1990Became under jurisdiction of Ministry of Trade and Industry (currently Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) and approved to establish Japan POP Advertising Association.
2000Became independent from U.S. POP Advertising Association and changed the name to “Japan Point of Purchase Promotion Institute Inc.” Abbreviation: JPP
2005Launched  “Promotional Marketer Qualification Certificate” program.
Conducted the first “Promotional Marketer Certification Qualification Test”
2007Established Japan Promotional Marketing Society.
2009Name changed to “Japan Promotional Marketing Institute Inc.”

2012Registered as a general incorporated association “Japan Promotional Marketing Institute Inc.”
201950th anniversary of the founding.
“JPM POP Creative Awards” officially licensed by Shop! OMA Awards program.
2020The 50th Japan Promotional Marketing Show postponed to autumn of 2021
2021The 50th Japan Promotional Marketing Show successfully held from October 27 to 29 at Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan.
2022The 51st Japan Promotional Marketing Show successfully held from November 30 to December 2 at Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-kan.

ACTIVITIES

To revitalize the industry as a whole, we are developing the following five programs in the promotional marketing area as pillars.

1) Seminars

As an open college, we accept a wide range of general attendance and offer three courses for human resource development, including skill-up courses (4 courses excluding JPM Overseas Training Tours) that have been approved for vocational training courses under the Vocational Skills Development Promotion Law.

2) Certification

The “Promotional Marketer” is a new profession with a bird’s-eye view of marketing activities. This is Japan’s only SP Professional Skill Certification program that aims to develop human resources with the knowledge and abilities that will lead the next generation of SP services.

3) Awards and Exhibition

The JPM Show has been held every fall since 1971 as the largest event of the association. The “JPM POP Creative Awards” is the main theme, and the “JPM Planning Solution Awards”, “Young POP Creative Awards”, and “Sales Promotion Trade Fair” are also include. This is an event where the forefront of promotional marketing professionals in Japan meet, and many from overseas also visit.

The “JPM POP Creative Awards” is an international POP award licensed by the Shop! OMA Awards, which Gold winners can enter the “Global Awards”, and the winners of the “JPM Planning Solution Awards” of the promotion planning contest can enter the “Globes Awards”.

The 53rd JPM Show will be held for three days from November 27 (Wed) to November 29 (Fri) at Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Center Hamamatsucho-kan.

4) Japan Promotional Marketing Society

The Japan Promotional Marketing Society builds and supports the foundation for the next generation by providing academic societies and research grants that promote promotional marketing research through industry-academia collaboration. The main members are researchers from universities and various research institutes, practitioners involved in sales promotion activities, and certified promotional marketers.

5) Research and Publications

We conduct surveys and research related to promotional marketing, compile information and materials, publish various survey reports, specialized information magazines, etc., and send information both inside and outside association.
